Back to the Starting Line...

Ryan watched as those who couldn't quite get through the endurance test were cut and felt thankful he could make it as far as he could. "Don't get laxed now boy, we still have a ways to go..." He thought to himself before Steven's voice rang out and got his attention. With a nod and a shrug, Ryan quickly went down and began his push ups, making sure he did them correctly and went through the correct motions until he completed his twenty, just after Hoshi completed his set.

"That woke my arms up...my legs were already there." Ryan said with a laugh as he patted Hoshi on the back. "Made it through the physical part, I'm ready to see what kind of mental challenge we're going to have, hopefully I don't crack or something." Ryan said with a grin as he grabbed up his things and looked to Steven as he waited.

Hoshi smiled at ryan. "The mental part is just to see what you would do in the case of the odds being against you."

Steven then smiled. "Alright everyone follow me." He said as he lead the group to a forest in the middle of the base. "Within this forest is a crafty little caterpie. You may be saying c caterpie please. don't under estimate this one your job is to catch it and bring it back. using only your hands and your brain. Hoshi go first.

Hoshi sighed and went into the forest. after abut 15 minutes he emerged with the caterpie in his hands before letting it go back in the forest. he has scabs all over him. you wondered how bad the caterpie really was as it was now your turn to find him.

Raising an eyebrow slightly as he noticed how bad Hoshi looked, Ryan simply looked a bit timid as it was now his turn, but letting out a sigh and slowly entering the forest, the boy narrowed his eyes and quickly got to work, moving around to try and spot the bug pokemon before formulating a plan to actually get a hold of it.

"I don't get it, I've seen Caterpie before, and none have given me problems, why start now?" Ryan thought to himself as he began peering up different trees. "How crafty could this thing be?"

As you look around the forest you don't spot the caterpie until you hear "squee!". Caterpire was close and calling there are a few trees a bit further off would you go search them or would you continue to search in the same area. Caterpier must be close.

Ryan smirked as he finally heard the cry of the Caterpie and taking a few moments to think this through, the boy stayed close to the area he was searching, wanting to make sure he thoroughly checked it out before moving if he had to. "I hear you Caterpie, I know you're around here somewhere..." He muttered, looking around the brush on the ground and back up into trees as he searched.

"Sque!" It said as suddenly your arm was being string shot to a tree. The next thing you saw you couldn't believe. caterpie was using his string shot to swing from tree to tree. But right now you had a bigger problem getting your arm free. You were strong enough to pull yourself free but caterpie seems to be very smart 4 minutes had already past since you had began.

"GAH!!" Ryan cried out as he noticed that his right arm was pinned to a tree by the Caterpie's String Shot attack. "You crafty little bug..." He muttered, shaking his head slightly before reaching over with his stronger left arm to pull the string from the tree to free himself before retracing where the pokemon took off to from tree to tree, quickly jogging along and remaining alert.

"Oh Caterpie, Where'd you go?" Ryan called out with a smirk, glancing around back into the trees.

Suddenly you tripped. You look behind you and see a string shot was set up like a rope causing you to trip when you ran. "Sqee sqee." The caterpie laughed from on top of the tree next to you before swinging off again.

After faceplanting into the ground after tripping on the tricky Caterpie's string shot, Ryan took a minute to confer with himself, tapping his fingers impatiently on the ground as he figured out his situation. "Alright, now this is getting crazy...fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, shame on Caterpie." He muttered, before sighing and getting back to his feet. "At least I know its going tree to tree, so that makes things slightly easier..." Ryan said lowly, following the path that Caterpie took as he lay on the ground in slight pain.

Now not knowing about any other traps or attacks Caterpie might use, Ryan did his best to focus on how to capture the Caterpie all the while watching the ground and trees for any sign of trickery. "I'm going to pass this dangit, you're not stopping me bug..." He growled lowly.

"Sqee sqee!" The caterpie said as suddenly it sent a next made of string shot to trap you on the ground. You would have to move extremely fast to avoid this net or maybe you could use the net to your advantage. The caterpie was now directly over head of you as it sent the net down form a tree.

Ryan gasped as he saw the String Shot net head right for him and quickly rolled away from it but quickly tried to reach out with his right hand to pull the thread and Caterpie in one go, looking a bit frazzled as this small bug was giving him this hard of a time. "Either its coming down here or I'm going up there..." Ryan thought to himself, giving a small frown as he watched the Bug Pokemon.

snickered as it through a string shot straight at your forehead. This caterpie sure enjoyed messing with new rangers.

MEANWHILE

"That caterpie is just as bad as its mother was." Steven said as a butterfree rested on his shoulders using its compound eyes to keep track of the events.
